About the program

Mediation competencies for everyone working with military families include the skills necessary for:

increasing the effectiveness of handling family conflicts within these families and their surroundings;

supporting the social adaptation of war veterans;

and restoring contact between all members of military families, taking into account the interests of children.
This training will help participants understand the psychological effects of military service and the specific nature of family conflicts in military families. It will also provide knowledge of the social and legal aspects that affect the lives of all family members and help develop competencies for effectively working with conflicts in military families.
Objectives

Study the characteristics of military subculture. Explore the psychological and behavioral challenges faced by military families.

Examine and process personal reactions related to war and military experience. Develop communication skills with military personnel and their families.

Build stabilization skills for acute stress reactions and learn to manage high-emotion conflict situations.

Study the typology of conflicts that arise within military families and their environment, and deepen the understanding of the specifics of these conflicts.

Develop skills for working with military family conflicts, nonviolent communication, and peaceful resolution of conflict situations.

The ability to understand the emotional state of family members experiencing stress, anxiety, loss, or other difficult situations related to military service. At the same time, awareness of the limitations regarding emotional engagement when working with military personnel and veterans. Working with aggression.
Understanding post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), depression, anxiety disorders, and other psychological effects that military families may face.
It is important to recognize the differences in military experience, as this significantly affects the conditions and quality of work with military families.
The ability to communicate effectively with family members, considering their individual traits and needs, and the ability to adapt the communication style to specific situations.
The ability to use stabilization techniques.
Understanding the rights and responsibilities of military personnel and their families, as well as awareness of available social programs and legal assistance.
The ability to identify and analyze conflicts, apply effective conflict management strategies, and help parties find mutually satisfactory solutions that take the child’s interests into account.
The ability to cope with stress and emotional strain independently when dealing with difficult family situations in military families.
Identifying trauma, theories of grief, and the connection between trauma and conflict.

Tetiana Bilyk is an accredited international mediator (CEDR, UK, 2009; MiKK, Germany, 2022), trainer, and Chair of the Board of the NGO ITC "Mediation School". She is also the Chair of the Board of the NGO "Ukrainian Mediators League" and co-founder and Chair of the Supervisory Board of the NGO "Association of Family Mediators of Ukraine".
She serves as the representative of ISS (International Social Service, General Secretariat, Switzerland) in Ukraine within the framework of cooperation on international family mediation.
Tetiana is a member of the Institute for Integrative Mediation (Germany), a member of the Family Mediators Association (UK), a practicing psychologist, and a psychotherapist.

Participants receive a certificate allowing them to practice mediation in accordance with Ukrainian law.

If they wish, graduates may be included in the register of mediators of NGO ITC "Mediation School".

Certificate issued on condition of of attendance of at least 90% of classes and completion of home assignments.
