Contents of the program
The philosophy of family mediation is based on the eco-systemic approach, which takes into account family systems' dynamics, relationships between family members and their influence on each other. Special attention is paid to working with groups of siblings for harmonization of relationships.
Studying the stages of psychosocial development allows you to understand the peculiarities of crisis periods, the tasks of each age phase and the formation of personal confidence in children. This includes the child's ability to verbally express their feelings and needs.
Depending on their age, children experience parental divorce differently. The topics of loyalty conflicts, children's psychological responses and needs during this period help mediators better understand children's coping strategies.
Different ways of engaging children in mediation - direct and indirect - are considered. Emphasis is placed on international conventions on the right of the child to be heard and legislation on domestic violence and child protection.
Mediators use various techniques to work with children without their direct participation in the process. This ensures comfort and efficiency in resolving family conflicts.
A meeting with a child in the format of family mediation involves setting goals, stages of work, and using effective techniques to better understand their needs and emotions.
During these sessions, goals and objectives for joint work are set. Specific techniques are used so that children feel comfortable expressing their views in the presence of their parents.
When a child becomes an active participant in the conflict, mediators must take into account his / her unique position, emotions, and needs to reach effective solutions.
Effective techniques, such as a drawing, a game, and original projective techniques, allow you to work better with children aged 5 and older, helping them express their views and feelings.
In times of crisis, special attention should be paid to development of children's attachments and their traumatization. The ways to restore emotional balance after loss of attachment are considered.
The concept of “good enough parenting” implies constructive cooperation after divorce, avoiding alienation and addressing difficult situations when a child refuses to communicate with one of the parents.
Mediators help parents to properly explain to their children the decisions made and changes in their lives. This includes taking into account the children's views and providing them with relevant information based on scientific research.
